This month's client spotlight is one of our more recent clients, who came in for our Product Photography Day, and who we immediately knew we had to spotlight on our blog. Papohang and Kishor are cousins, whose new company LSG Denim was born of their passion for high quality denim and superior craftsmanship, for a reasonable price. We met before the shoot, and their enthusiasm for what they do was contagious, and so exciting to see, that we could have chatted for hours. Both Gillian and I could see a video about them forming in our minds as we listened - perhaps a project for down the road? ;-)
So without further ado, here is a bit more about them, in their own words.
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Papohang Subba and I am one of the founders at LSG Denim. As a startup, we do not have a job title or a specific job description. Simply put, between three of us partners, we do everything that goes behind making a pair of jeans, selling it and making sure that the customers are happy with what they received.
Tell us more about your background, related to this business (where did your passion came from)?
None of us founders have a business background nor a trained designing background. But each of us had a unique set of skills to compliment each other, hence the partnership.
Explain when and why you started this business.
High quality fabric and getting unique fades was what attracted us to raw denim. When we first started wearing raw denim in 2011, the price point was ridiculous, and it still is. We did our research and came to the conclusion that we could make superior product at a reasonable price. We saw a business opportunity but was not sure. This was early 2013.
We hired the right people and started making different patterns. Made about 60 pairs and sold it amongst friends and family, and they loved it.
After that what started as a hobby became passion/obsession. We started experimenting with our patterns and wasted hundreds of yards of premium denim in the process. It took us almost four years to convince ourselves that we could finally go into production. Our business and website went live on March 9, 2018.
How rewarding is it for you to be doing what you're doing?
It is very rewarding to say the least. We have been very well received by the raw denim lovers. We regularly receive emails from people telling us how skeptic they were to buy our product because of the low price point, and were blown away with the fit and quality of our jeans. Compliments like those makes us believe that we are in the right track.
Who are your main customers? Who are your best customers?
It varies. We get people who wouldn’t wear anything except raw selvedge to someone buying raw denim for the first time because of the attractive price point.
What are you struggling with right now?
Getting the word out is our biggest challenge at the moment.
How can people help you at this point in your work?
By buying a pair of course. Lol. If you have ever bought a pair from us, you can help us by telling your friends and family about us. We are also always in need of social media content, so user generated content is another way you can help us. Lastly, if there is anything you would like to see improved with our products, you can help us by letting us know about it.
How can people best reach you?

Any other interesting stories about you and your business? Fun anecdotes, interesting facts, anything else you would like to share.
We found out that “Your perception is your reality” to be very true. We did a $99 (including free shipping to Canada/US) sale during Canada Day. The sale was a success but we later found out that a lot of people held back because they could not believe that a raw selvedge denim could be sold at that price. You live and learn.
